Nick Karner recently got started working as a host at IHOP, but he persevered and kept looking for a job in his field. He just found work as a tire technician and is committed to working both jobs. David was referred by ACCESS and is working a great job doing house framing and construction. He is very pleased with his work site and is happy to be working with a supportive supervisor! Scott Skeldon is an extremely resourceful person. He came to BOB in the morning with one job, and when that one didn't work out, he went across the street and got himself another one in the same day! David Turner
David Turner is recently arrived from Ontario. He is so enthusiastic and outgoing that he got himself a job and got connected to BOB within four days of getting to Vancouver! David Canney
David was referred to BOB through ACCESS. He's been away from Vancouver for a few years and now that he's back he's starting work full time with Pelenny Construction. Congratulations David!
Steve Bull

Rodney Whalen
After landing a roofing job, Rodney Whalen heard about BOB's Supported Employment Program through the Haven shelter. Rodney has 20 years of roofing experience and was keen to get back on the job, so we got him the boots he needed to get there. Congrats Rodney!
Sean Smyth
Sean was referred to BOB through the YWCA Career Zone. After travelling across Canada he started working in construction through a temp agency once he settled in Vancouver. He did such a great job on the site that MP Construction hired him on full-time. BOB's Supported Employment Program was able to help him get the clothing and tools he needed to start work right away. Maple Sung
Maple Sung has just successfully completed the Cycleback Bicycle Repair program and an apprenticeship with the PEDAL Depot. She is passionate about bikes and is also fluent in Cantonese and Mandarin. Through Cycleback she has gained the skills and confidence she needed to transition away from general customer service jobs and into her desired career as a bicycle mechanic. Congratulations Maple!
Steph Radek
Steph has just started working as a flagger. She now has all the gear she needs to get on the job and some cozy boots to keep her warm and dry while working outdoors over winter and fall. Congratulations Steph, we wish you all the best!

Amber Robinson
Amber Robinson is Army & Navy's newest cashier! Amber is an inner-city resident whose photography is being considered for the 2012 Hope in Shadows Calendar. Her job at Army & Navy has helped her move to a spiffy new home, and she is very excited about her new position. Through BOB's Supported Employment Program we helped her get the comfy shoes and support she needed to thrive in the workplace. But best of all, she has a contagiously positive attitude which is clearly the foundation of her success. We congratulate Amber on all her hard work and look forward to seeing her next time we visit the store!
Richard Paterson
Richard Paterson is an inner-city resident and was referred to BOB's Supported Employment Program through Pathways. He's found a full time position in plastics manufacturing and is getting the post-employment support he needs to succeed on the job through BOB and Working Gear. Wilfred Dennis
Wilfred Dennis is on the job as a shingler/roofer with RoofRight. He found out about BOB's Supported Employment program through ACE, and came down right away when he found out he would be working the next day. Upon recieving his working gear that same afternoon, Wilfred said "I've never been anywhere where I got help and equipment so fast!". Nichlos Tilley
Nichlos Tilley has just enthusiastically re-entered the workforce and is employed as a reciever with Day and Ross. Nichlos found out about the Supported Employment Program through a presentation that Employment Support Coordinator Ada-Mo Williams gave at Harbour Light. He continues to be an active volunteer at Harbour Light and brings his contagiously positive attitude to everything he does. BOB's SEP program helped him get the boots and support he needed to succeed on the job. Congratulations Nichlos!
Dave Wattley
The inner city is going to have to say goodbye to Dave Wattley, who is going to work at an Encana mine north of Prince George. Dave is a skilled electrician with a longtime connection to this neighborhood. He was connected to BOB through the program at the Job Shop, and we are pleased to be able to support him by helping him get the work gear and winter clothes he needs for his new job. Jean-Pierre Roberge
Jean-Pierre Roberge was referred to BOB through folks at La Boussole and New Chapter. He is enthusiastic about mechanics, and started the Cycleback Bicycle Mechanic Training Program in February of 2011. Through Cycleback he completed a work experience practicum at MEC, and has gone on to work as a bicycle mechanic at YES Cycles and Village Bikes in Steveston. Jean-Pierre's success proves that a little bit of training goes a long way. Congratulations Jean-Pierre from all of us here at BOB!
Osato Obaseki
Osato Obaseki is getting on the job with Trimpac/Sysco! Trimpac is an inner-city business that often partners with BOB to post employment opportunities and hire local residents. When a General Labour position opened at Trimpac, Osato was referred to BOB by the JobShop and selected for an interview. Now that he's got the job, BOB is pleased to be able to support him through our SEP program. Congratulations Osato!
Draigh Creamer
Draigh graduated from the Cycleback Bike Mechanic Training Program in April of 2011. He completed a 2 week practicum with the PEDAL Depot and continues to enjoy volunteering there, where he helps others learn how to fix their bikes. Cycleback empowered and inspired Dreigh, and he now looks forward to becoming an expert mechanic and starting his own bicycle delivery company. Here at BOB we admire his vision and enthusiasm. Dennis Munroe
Dennis has come a long way with BOB! We started working with Dennis when we helped him find work during the 2010 Winter Olympics. After that he went on to work with EMBERS as a general labourer. This spring he started with Centre Line Design doing carpentry and construction, a job he loves because of the quality of work he is able to provide in this role. But the best news of all? Dennis has landed a job with CPR and will be working as a Railroad Engineer come October. BOB is pleased to have worked closely with Dennis to ensure he got the support he needed, and are proud to see him have so much success. Best wishes Dennis!
Maitre Moka Balikama
After coming to Canada from South Africa, Maitre Moka had a tough time finding work. He recently found a job doing construction site cleanup, but needed gloves, boots, and hard hat to get on the job. He was referred to BOB through the great folks at Carnegie Community Centre, and the Supported Employment Program helped him get the gear and support he needed to be successful. Aime-Cesaire Ingabire
After coming to Canada from Pretoria, Aime Cesaire had a tough time finding work. He recently landed a full-time work doing construction site cleanup, and through BOB's Supported Employment Program got the gloves, boots, and hard hat he needed to get on the job. Congratulations Aime-Cesaire!

Jean Lacroix is working full time with Flexforce Labour Solutions to demolish the Plaza 500 Hotel. Jean brings a great attitude to his new job. The day before he started he told BOB staff: "I'm gonna do a real good job. My boss is going to love me. All the bad things are going away now." Ken found himself a construction job with a social service agency BOB works with quite frequently: EMBERS Staffing Solutions. From there, he got hired full-time as a foreman with a roofing company and is doing a great job building a savings. Way to go Ken!

When Ruth got a job as a cleaner at Rose Energetics, her brother William told her about the Supported Employment Program at BOB. Ruth was able to get clothes and equipment to start her position and is now working quite a few hours per week. Congratulations Ruth!

For the past few months, BOB has worked closely with Impark, which has resulted in several hires in various parts of the company. Shakeel is the latest addition to the Impark team. Andrew was referred to BOB from ACCESS when he got his job as a Labourer at Vanmar Company. He has many years of experience as a painter and roofer under his belt and is excited to begin a new position in the construction field. Around Halloween, Cecilia came into the office looking for job opportunities. Thanks to our contacts at Impark, we were able to put forward her resume for the Data Entry Clerk position that had just come available; Cecilia was offered the job soon after. Milton had applied for a job in the warehouse at FROGBOX when he left to visit Fort McMurray for the week. When he returned, he found out that he had been accepted for the position! He is quite excited as the position is a good fit with his abilities. Best of luck, Milton!

Shawn found himself a job as a flagger at Embers and came to BOB for some assistance with bus tickets and Quest vouchers. He has 20 years of traffic checking and data analysis experience, and is excited to get back into a similar field. Congratulation Shawn!
Wayne Fuller
Wayne came into the BOB office excited about his new position in Saskatchewan starting next month. The company he will be working for had paid for his flight but he had limited funds to last him until his move and for the first few weeks in a new province. Luckily, BOB got wind of a temporary position with Transtec Data, doing surveying work. We thought this would be perfect for Wayne before he left and suggested he apply there; he was hired shortly thereafter. Wayne is a very enthusiastic and happy person. We wish him the best of luck in Saskatchewan!
Roger Gauthier
Roger will have been happily working at the Nesters Market at the new Woodward's development for a year in December. He came into the BOB office to let us know how well he is doing! We wish Roger continued success at his job.
Callum Therdahn
In fall 2010, Callum was hired at Recycling Alternative for what he thought would be a temporary, week-long position. By demonstrating his enthusiasm and superb work ethic, he was offered a full-time job as a sorter. Dennis previously had success finding a job with BOB's help during the Winter Olympic Games in February 2010. He has now found a new job with EMBERS as a general labourer. We are pleased to be supporting Dennis once again - congratulations Dennis!

Arthur has started working at the South Burnaby Neighbourhood House as a childcare worker and is very excited about the opportunity. He is also looking forward to planning a trip to Disneyland with his 8-year old daughter. Congratulations Arthur!

ACHEIVEMNTS: Byron was enrolled in ACCESS’s Essential Skills Class when he first heard of an employment opportunity which BOB was advertising. His passion for cooking indigenous foods and years of experience in working in the kitchen made him an ideal candidate for the position. Edgewater Casino quickly hired Bryon after one interview and he was hired as a second cook who would run the kitchen during graveyard hours. Congratulations Byron!
Hanh Pham
ACHEIVEMENTS: Hanh was working as a part-time sorter at a courier depot when he was introduced to BOB. He wanted to learn a new skill and find a new passion for his career. He was particularly interested in attending the H.A.V.E. Culinary Training Program. Hanh was enrolled shortly after his interview for the course and has completed his training! He has now gained a new set of skills which he can apply to his new choice of career!

ACHIEVEMENTS: Huong was connected to us through BOB’s Building Services BusinessLinks Training. From the businessLinks, she obtained WHMIS certification and was offered a position with ABM Canada upon graduation. Her eagerness and willingness to work hard has made her an ideal employee to many. She also found employment with Atira’s Property Manager as a front desk/custodian as well as working as a cleaner for the Olympics.
Adam Giles
ACHIEVEMNTS: Adam was a participant of BOB’s London Drugs Woodward’s BusinessLinks Training. Through the BusinessLinks program, Adam showed great attitude and his eagerness was paid off when he was offered a permanent part-time customer service position. He has been employed for over 9 months and the management team at London Drugs have praised Adam on his work ethic and his contribution to the team.
Ilyas
ACHIEVEMENTS: When Ilyas was first connected to BOB, he was searching for a career path where he can do something he loves. After months of searching, Ilyas is now working part-time at a local restaurant and attends H.A.V.E. Café Culinary Training Program full-time.
SOLEfood Inner-City Farm
ACHIEVEMENTS: SOLEfood Inner-City Farm has continued to recieve praise in the community and abroad. To be visited soon by world renowned urban agriculturalist Will Allen, the excitement continues to build around this once underused plot of land on Hastings and Hawkes.
Several local residents-eager greenthumbs-have recieved training, instruction and eduction, through workshops and speaking engagements hosted by BOB. Seann Dory of United We Can recently commented on the enthusiasm in this group, eager to start farming in the coming months!
Trevor and Bekah, achieving together
ACHEIVEMENTS:Trevor came to BOB in the summer of 2009 after hearing about us through a friend at Salvation Army’s Belkin House. “If it hadn’t been for BOB we would’ve been in deep water” recalls Trevor.
Shortly after working with the BOB team he found a part-time job with AJK Moving then just before Christmas 2009 landed a full-time job that he felt ideally suited for. While Trevor was working hard at both jobs Bekah was studying full time at Granville Business College. After finishing the Veterinary Assistant Diploma there, she was
hired full time at the Fraser Heights Animal Hospital where she had done practicum work. She feels the Supported Employment Program at BOB was crucial in helping her transition:
“I wouldn’t have been able to get to work physically and start this new job without the help from BOB who offered the support through the SEP with things like meal vouchers and bus tickets.”
After several months of growth Trevor and Bekah began work on a business plan for a company they aim to launch in the near future. Congratulations on all your success Trevor and Bekah, from the whole team at BOB!
Trevor Gray
Achievements: When Trevor first came to BOB in the fall of 2009 he had just begun a new phase in his life. After years of dealing with substance abuse challenges he had decided to clean up, clear his mind, and enjoy life! After meeting with our friends and partners at SUCCESS, Trevor was referred to BOB to assist him in his job search. Trevor credits the the Business Links program, job fairs and Supported Employment Program, offered through BOB, for helping him make the transformation to the confident and hapilly employed person he is today. Trevor has now been at Nester's Food Floor at Woodward's since December 2009 and recently gave a presentation on customer service skills at a BOB BusinessLinks lunch!

ACHIEVEMENTS: Completed the Material Handler Training, and began work with VANOC in the warehouse.

Charles White
ACHIEVEMENTS: Charles began working in food services the summer of 2008. Charles participated in the H.A.V.E. Culinary Training program and has been working in local restaurants. He completed the SEP program and continues to work towards his goal of being a full time cook.
Joseph Earl
ACHIEVEMENTS: “I had just found out I had a baby on the way. Finding work wasn't an easy task for a young, soon-to-be father like me.” Joseph applied online for The Home Depot )Terminal Ave( and was referred to BOB for follow up. A few days later he attended an interview and was offered a warehousing position. “When I arrived at BOB and started talking with the staff in the judgment free environment )I have a lot of tattoos and look a little rough around the edges(. I realized it was so much more than just a connection to a job. I'm very glad I was introduced to it, and though they would never say it or expect it, I feel I owe them for helping me out.”
Michelle Johnston
ACHIEVEMENTS: Michelle found temporary work through Embers Staffing Solutions. Her positive attitude rubbed off on everyone in the BOB office every time she walked in the door. That combined with her willingness to do whatever it took to do the job well helped her be successful on the job. Commenting on being connected with BOB, “Even just having you contact me once in a while, and letting me know what’s going on meant so much. It was moral support that I really needed. Now I’m moving into my own place that I can fix up, and my life is moving up!”
William Williams
ACHIEVEMENTS: William was referred to BOB through Belkin House. He is a very hard work and began back working for a construction company doing rebar.
CORE Plus
ACHIEVEMENTS: 8 inner city residents gained framing, drywall and finishing skills as well as apprenticeship hours. Funded by the Millennium CBA, BOB partnering with VRCA )Vancouver Regional Construction Association( to do on the job training while revitalizing an unused building along Hastings Street in the Downtown Eastside.
Tim Rantanen
ACHIEVEMENTS: Tim successfully completed a BOB BusinessLinks Customer Service training. He then found work at Recycling Alternatives through the BOB Job Postings. Tim’s dependable nature and kindness continue to do him well as he moves towards his goals.
Audz Jeferis
ACHIEVEMENTS: In recovery and two and a half years clean, Audz worked with Reza Roodi, Director of Recruitment and Counsellor at EMBERS Temporary Staffing Solutions, to transition back into the workforce.
A skilled carpenter, Audz has demonstrated excellent work ethic and skill on the job site. “I really enjoy working on this project,” she says, “it’s a great place to work and there are really good people here”. She has since been offered full-time employment at Bynett Construction and an opportunity to continue her apprenticeship. Congratulations Audz!
Maggie Louie
ACHIEVEMENTS: Maggie has been working at Rona for over 2 years. She loves the employer and loves the work.
John Lee
ACHIEVEMENTS: John received work in the kitchen at Edgewater Casino. He was able to get his Food Safe Certification through the Workforce Development Fund. He is very excited to be in the industry of his choice!
Maxwell Haywood
ACHIEVEMENTS:Heard about us through Barb at Triumph Vocational Services because Recycling Alternative had posted some positions to be filled through BOB.
He wanted to work outdoors – physical work. His work is great for him because he is able to use the forklift and not have to exert too much energy. This is important to him for medical reasons.
“Will and Lani have been a great help! Before this my situation was pretty terrible…suffering from depression…too much stress…had to go to hospital and have operation because of the stress I was under. Work is the key – it is essential. It is like breathing – I need to keep my mind active”
What’s next for Maxwell? He wants to move into a nice suite and take a well deserved vacation. “Now I have options.” He says.
Simone Blakeney
ACHIEVEMENTS: Simone was placed with a plumbing company on Vancouver's Athlete's Village construction site as a part of the CBA. She completed her employment on site, doing very well in the plumbing industry. Once that was complete, she took part in the CORE Plus program where she received apprenticeship hours and worked on the renovations for 108 East Hastings, an unoccupied building on the Hastings corridor that is now being used as space for local artists. Simone is continuing her schooling in plumbing/sprinklers and hopes to further her career in the trades.
Paul Goeujon
ACHIEVEMENTS: Paul was placed into work on Vancouver’s Athlete Village construction site working with Metrocan. He was able to work successfully for the company and was presented with a medal from the Premier of BC to thank him and all the workers on site for their hard work. )Paul is pictured here with Employment Support Coordinator at BOB, Lani Johnson(
Roderick Green
ACHIEVEMENTS: “Bit by bit everything is coming together,” said Green. “Lani has helped me in so many ways. I can’t explain how grateful I am. This program worked for me and it could work for many, many others.” After completing the CORE Training Program, Roderick worked as a roofer. Unfortunately, after working successfully on the job for several months, Roderick had unexpected health issues. He continued to work with BOB, and began working at Atira on the Front Desk.

Maple Sung has just successfully completed the Cycleback Bicycle Repair program and an apprenticeship with the PEDAL Depot. She is passionate about bikes and is also fluent in Cantonese and Mandarin. Draigh graduated from the Cycleback Bike Mechanic Training Program in April of 2011. Dennis has come a long way with BOB! We started working with Dennis when we helped him find work during the 2010 Winter Olympics. After that he went on to work with EMBERS as a general labourer. This spring he started with Centre Line Design doing carpentry and construction, a job he loves because of the quality of work he is able to provide in this role. But the best news of all? Dennis has landed a job with CPR and will be working as a Railroad Engineer come October. Wayne came into the BOB office excited about his new position in Saskatchewan starting next month. The company he will be working for had paid for his flight but he had limited funds to last him until his move and for the first few weeks in a new province. Luckily, BOB got wind of a temporary position with Transtec Data, doing surveying work. We thought this would be perfect for Wayne before he left and suggested he apply there; he was hired shortly thereafter. Wayne is a very enthusiastic and happy person. ACHEIVEMENTS: Hanh was working as a part-time sorter at a courier depot when he was introduced to BOB. He wanted to learn a new skill and find a new passion for his career. He has now gained a new set of skills which he can apply to his new choice of career!

She also found employment with Atira’s Property Manager as a front desk/custodian as well as working as a cleaner for the Olympics.

Through the BusinessLinks program, Adam showed great attitude and his eagerness was paid off when he was offered a permanent part-time customer service position. ACHIEVEMENTS: SOLEfood Inner-City Farm has continued to recieve praise in the community and abroad. To be visited soon by world renowned urban agriculturalist Will Allen, the excitement continues to build around this once underused plot of land on Hastings and Hawkes.
Several local residents-eager greenthumbs-have recieved training, instruction and eduction, through workshops and speaking engagements hosted by BOB. Seann Dory of United We Can recently commented on the enthusiasm in this group, eager to start farming in the coming months!

ACHEIVEMENTS:Trevor came to BOB in the summer of 2009 after hearing about us through a friend at Salvation Army’s Belkin House. “If it hadn’t been for BOB we would’ve been in deep water” recalls Trevor.
Shortly after working with the BOB team he found a part-time job with AJK Moving then just before Christmas 2009 landed a full-time job that he felt ideally suited for. While Trevor was working hard at both jobs Bekah was studying full time at Granville Business College. After finishing the Veterinary Assistant Diploma there, she was
hired full time at the Fraser Heights Animal Hospital where she had done practicum work. She feels the Supported Employment Program at BOB was crucial in helping her transition:
“I wouldn’t have been able to get to work physically and start this new job without the help from BOB who offered the support through the SEP with things like meal vouchers and bus tickets.”
After several months of growth Trevor and Bekah began work on a business plan for a company they aim to launch in the near future. Congratulations on all your success Trevor and Bekah, from the whole team at BOB!

Achievements: When Trevor first came to BOB in the fall of 2009 he had just begun a new phase in his life. After years of dealing with substance abuse challenges he had decided to clean up, clear his mind, and enjoy life! After meeting with our friends and partners at SUCCESS, Trevor was referred to BOB to assist him in his job search. Trevor credits the the Business Links program, job fairs and Supported Employment Program, offered through BOB, for helping him make the transformation to the confident and hapilly employed person he is today. Finding work wasn't an easy task for a young, soon-to-be father like me.” Joseph applied online for The Home Depot )Terminal Ave( and was referred to BOB for follow up. A few days later he attended an interview and was offered a warehousing position. “When I arrived at BOB and started talking with the staff in the judgment free environment )I have a lot of tattoos and look a little rough around the edges(. I realized it was so much more than just a connection to a job. I'm very glad I was introduced to it, and though they would never say it or expect it, I feel I owe them for helping me out.”

ACHIEVEMENTS: In recovery and two and a half years clean, Audz worked with Reza Roodi, Director of Recruitment and Counsellor at EMBERS Temporary Staffing Solutions, to transition back into the workforce.
A skilled carpenter, Audz has demonstrated excellent work ethic and skill on the job site. “I really enjoy working on this project,” she says, “it’s a great place to work and there are really good people here”. He wanted to work outdoors – physical work. His work is great for him because he is able to use the forklift and not have to exert too much energy. This is important to him for medical reasons.
“Will and Lani have been a great help! Before this my situation was pretty terrible…suffering from depression…too much stress…had to go to hospital and have operation because of the stress I was under. Work is the key – it is essential. It is like breathing – I need to keep my mind active”
What’s next for Maxwell? He wants to move into a nice suite and take a well deserved vacation. “Now I have options.” He says.

ACHIEVEMENTS: Simone was placed with a plumbing company on Vancouver's Athlete's Village construction site as a part of the CBA. She completed her employment on site, doing very well in the plumbing industry. Once that was complete, she took part in the CORE Plus program where she received apprenticeship hours and worked on the renovations for 108 East Hastings, an unoccupied building on the Hastings corridor that is now being used as space for local artists. Simone is continuing her schooling in plumbing/sprinklers and hopes to further her career in the trades.
