The BOB Blog is up and running
Thanks to much diligent work by Andrew “Muskie” McKay the BOB blog is now live! The BOB team has been eager to engage with our friends and allies in Vancouver and elsewhere through a more thorough and thoughtful use of social media, this blog represents a major step forward in that effort.
This is a place where we invite anyone and everyone who’s interested in the health and vibrancy of our historic inner city to engage in a constructive dialogue with us about the present and future. Here you’ll find a variety of stories, interviews, articles and information about the amazing people, businesses, organizations and events here in Vancouver’s oldest and most storied urban neighbourhoods.
Actually I have one now come to think of it…
Last Friday at Pat’s Pub Vancouverite’s were treated to a thoughtful and engaging round table interview live on CBC’s On the Coast hosted by Stephen Quinn. BOB CEO Shirley Chan, Mark Townsend of the Portland Hotel Society, and a host of locals including Strathcona historian James Johnstone all contributed to an amazing discussion on the past, present and future of Strathcona. Some fascinating stories about Vancouver’s early jazz renaissance led by the iconic Jelly Roll Morton captivated the crowd at Pat’s. A tribute concert to Jelly Roll then followed afterward. It was one huge party.
However, as I aspire to be a man about town I had jogged down to the Woodward’s building before the concert started to see the eagerly anticipated lighting of the Woodward’s W. Past city councilor Jim Green, led an enthusiastic crowd in flipping the switch and lighting up the skyline’s newest consonant. Though not as high up as the Scotiabank -S- it is far more shimmery and flashy! Unfortunately Pat’s was too packed to get in by the time we got back but it was worth it to be present at such a momentous and inspiring occasion in the history of the Downtown Eastside.
